Makoto Horiuchi, an accomplished composer, guitarist and arranger, was born in Boulder, Colorado,where he developed an interest in music at an early age. He has studied with Larry Coryell and Bill Connors, and performed as a member of trombonist Julian Priester’s Marine Intrusion, who recorded his composition “Wind Dolphin.” A resident of San Francisco, Makoto Horiuchi has established a stellar band of players for his debut album. Keyboardist Philip Woo is best known for his work with Roy Ayers, Ashford & Simpson and most recently with Frankie Beverly & Maze Drummer, Billy Johnson, whose unique blend of funk and jazz is the pulse of Makoto’s album, has played with violinist Noel Pointer, LaBelle and Frankie Beverly & Maze. Saxophonist Larry Schneider has made a name for himself working with legendary pianists Horace Silver and the late Bill Evans. Larry was a featured soloist on the Bill Evans/Toolts Thielemans album Affinity.The two new faces in the band are guitarist Peter Fujii, who has played with Pharoah Sanders and bassist Hiroyuki Shido from Tokyo.Qwest Records’ President Quincy Jones stated, “When I was presented with Makoto’s music, I was excited about his potential as a Qwest recording artist.
